In evergreen secondary school, every secondary three class is to organize a service learning project where a beneficiary will receive help or some kind of service from the class. This is to nurture us to be self-directed leaders and also it teaches each and every one of us how to be
selfless, as we are volunteering our time and energy to the community. This gives the students an opportunity to see what the real work life is like, as they themselves have to organize the service learning project with minimal help from the teacher in charge.
As a team, my group chose to take a group of children to the park where we can organize outdoor activities for them to not only expose them more to the outdoors but to also teach the basic leadership skills like respect and commitment. We wanted to teach them these skills by organizing a few activities that requires them to put these skills to use. Also through this
project we got an opportunity to work with children. The decision to work with children was made from the very beginning as we wanted to challenge ourselves. Throughout the entire process from the start to the end we have overcome many obstacles as a team and we are very proud of the final product. This is as on the day itself, seeing the smiles on the faces of the children made the whole experience more worth while.
In this video you would be able to see the project through one of our team member’s eyes. What he sees is what we see as a group as the scene is very similar as they are all children.
