A NEW YEAR… A NEW BEGINNING…

n the blink of an eye, 2015 arrives. This marks a brand new chapter in my life. I was highly anticipating this whole new journey.

On 2nd January, as I stepped into this new campus, I was greeted by a brand new environment and many unfamiliar faces. I was filled with anxiety but at the same time, I could feel a spirit of excitement in me. During assembly, when the school song started to play, I was at total loss. I tried to sing along but to no avail. All I could do was stand rooted to the ground as I watched the seniors sing the school song and recite the school pledge with enthusiasm and zest. From then on, I told myself that I would learn the lyrics of the school song and pledge so that I will be able to sing in unison with the seniors.

Soon, I got to meet my new classmates. The friendly and caring seniors led us to our classroom and we started off with a round of self-introduction followed by exciting games. Through which, I got to know my classmates better. Since then, I was overwhelmed with eagerness and looked forward to a fun-filled orientation week.

Admittedly, events that occurred during the course of the next 3 days are memories that will be etched in my mind forever. The activity that has left the deepest impression was the campfire night. To date, I could still vividly recall how we prepared for the campfire night. Every class had to decide on a class cheer as well as a song with 1 of the 6 heroes that the school adopts as a theme. However, time was running short. Fortunately, with the help rendered by seniors, we managed to complete the seemingly Sisyphean task. After much brainstorming, we came out with an awesome song and an original cheer. I felt a sense of accomplishment. Throughout the entire preparation process, I certainly had a whale of time.

On the big day (the day of the campfire night), 9th January, with the desire to be awarded the best performance award, we assembled earlier than the other classes on that very evening to practice for our cheer and song one last time. Our class was picked as the first class to perform. That was like a nightmare. Nevertheless, we shouted the cheer with enthusiasm and sang our hearts out. Despite the fact that we did not win any awards, we did not feel dejected, as we had done our best. At least we got to enjoy the whole process and the class had become more united than before.

My class ended the night by taking some photos with our lovely seniors as a memory. Memories are the treasure that we keep locked deep within the storehouse of our soul that will be forever and always be alive.

P.s I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the seniors. This sec 1 orientation would not be such an enjoyable time without the seniors’ help! THANK YOU!
