The whole Spectrum was echoing with excitement as secondary one Chinese students gathered to attend the TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) workshop for the Mother Tongue Fortnight.
After being led to the Spectrum, teachers handed out worksheets to students in the workshop. We were immediately greeted by an expert of traditional Chinese medicine who also had jokes to share. Throughout the workshop, the TCM expert caught our attention with interesting facts and the long history of TCM. And of course, his jokes.
Here comes the fun part, everyone had to get into our assigned groups and vote one person to be the “model”. The rest of the students were supposed to paste stickers on the model’s face, hair (with a clip), and arms. After sticking , the models were called to the front of the Spectrum to let the TCM expert check if we pasted the stickers correctly, based on the picture given. Seeing the models with stickers all over their faces and arms made me (I could not help it) laugh but at the same time, I admired their courage for heading to the front.
The fun did not stop yet! We were supposed to head out with our group again to select the correct herb and place it on the paper in the correct box. With our itchy fingers, all of us immediately took one herb each and placed it in the correct box whilst racing against time and the other groups.
Fun fact: Rose tea relieves pain and makes one feel calm. The TCM expert filled us in with information about the Buddha fruit, honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, and rose herbal teas which have great health effects on our bodies. All in all , I thought that it was a fun and enjoyable experience. We got to appreciate our Mother Tongue and bond with others.
