WHAT IS OUR ALUMNI UP TO?

Many graduates of Evergreen Secondary School went on to do great things with their lives. Sometimes, they often give us opportunities to have a glimpse of their new life, away from Evergreen, and witness their successes and achievements. We are immensely proud of our dearest alumni for the legacy they left behind and continue to build on.

Sanjna’s outstanding performance in ACSian Theatre’s Amadeus.

Most of us might have known her or heard her name. Of course, she held a prominent position in the Prefectorial Board as the Head Prefect, contributed greatly to ELDDS with her flair for English and talent in acting and also, she is really nice.

The former Head Prefect continued to pursue acting in ACJC by being part of ACSian Theatre. I am overjoyed to see her perform in Amadeus, a play about the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart seen through the eyes of his rival, Antonio Salieri. Sanjna played Mozart’s girlfriend, Constanze.

I could not focus for the first few minutes of the performance as my mind just kept on going “Where’s Sanjna? Where’s Sanjna?” Eventually, I did find her and I started to pay attention to the play.

I was very impressed by the quality of the actors’ art, from the emotions they incorporated into their lines to their little actions that enhanced their character and also amazed by the rest of the crew for including a lot of intricate details to the costumes and props. Sanjna, surrounded by the actors and props fitted perfectly in the play and the acting scene in general. She was so comfortable on stage, it was as if she lived her life on stage (she probably did) and wears elaborate, colourful costumes all the time. She seemed at home. I saw it when she used to perform in Evergreen and I saw it peaked when I saw her perform on ACJC’s stage.

I was awestruck throughout the performance. But the reason for my awe varied from time to time then. Amadeus was vulgar and explicit, often using unpleasant language. Sanjna had multiple opportunities to spit out profanities and that just took me aback. I am completely aware that it was all acting and may not be really how they are in real life. Well, she is a magnificent actress because I forgot for a moment that she was a Head Prefect. She mentioned that she felt uneasy in playing the role but of course, she got pass it. She always does and as a result, she exemplified Constanze’s character completely letting go of her own. Now that is astounding acting.

The applause from the audience at the end of the play roared in the theatre. Unfortunately, I did not get to clap as much as them because it was very late at night and Mr Amin had to take me and the rest of the ELDDS kids home. I could still hear the ovation from the audience as I left the theatre. I could hear it slowly diminish. Then I could not hear it at all. Sanjna and the rest of the actors deserved a longer standing ovation with me clapping like a mad seal. That did not happen and that is okay. She would know great she was through this special article especially devoted to her. Great job, Sanjna!
