“ADOPT A COUNTRY” – BY EVG RUGBY TEAM

Being a part of the Evergreen Rugby team has always given us wonderful opportunities and memories. “Adopt a Country” project was one of the best that we will never forget.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2015-16 took place in Singapore on the 16th and 17th April 2016 at the National Stadium. As a lead up to the event, our team was invited to be a part of “Adopt A Country” project.

The objective of the project was to enrich the team’s knowledge by encouraging us to embrace the different cultures of the chosen teams. We were given the opportunity to showcase our artistic creativity on large wooden cubes which were displayed as a showpiece at the National Stadium during the event weekend.

The research topic given for our team was the country background of Australia. During the course of the project we were exposed to different cultural aspects of Australia. We were introduced to different internationally acclaimed iconic landmarks such as Sydney Harbour Bridge and their native animals such as (the ever-so-furry) Koala Bears.

For the project we worked together as a team and researched on various aspects.

“History” – Ishan Syaqir (4THK), Nurul Hasya (4THK), Shafuliqbal (4THK), Qiarah Krisha (2CHR)

“Places of Interest” – Md Faris (4DYN), Ryan Hidayat (4DYN), Vicki Lee (3CMT), Rena Ng (2THK)

“Mascot” – Ian Fonseca (4THK), Nur Hidayah (4CRG), Nur Anisah (2THK)

“Culture” – Aslamshah (4THK), Md Zhulfadhli (4THK), Sofea Erika (2THK), Yew Kaiwen (3ETP)

“Evergreen” – Hernan Merille (4DYN), Aisyah bte Rashid (4DYN), Khadijah bte Md Rafee (3THK)

With the guidance of our teachers we put the cubes together for the showcase.

Participating in this activity helped us to bond more as a team and broaden our knowledge about the culture of Australia. We are gratified to have been given a chance to do this meaningful project. A huge thanks to our dear teachers Mr Adam Chan, Ms Nurfarha, Mdm Amuthavalli and Mr Ian Lo who guided and assisted us in the completion of this project.
