The sound of cymbals marks the arrival of a new year!

Evergreen Secondary School held its annual Chinese New Year Concert that included performances from our very own EVGians. There were a variety of performances, ranging from Chinese Orchestra, to Chinese Dance, Gamelan, Malay Dance, and even a K-pop dance performance by the Chinese Dance Alumni!

However, have you ever wondered about the amount of effort that goes into creating the fantastic performances seen on stage?

For example , did you know that the Chinese Orchestra members had to have extra practices during the holidays and after school?

“Since it’s my last year in Evergreen , I am happy that I'm given the chance to perform! Although it has been tiring , I am happy to perform be able to showcase China’s cultural music during the Chinese New Year.” said Shee-ann from 4 Integrity, a member of our very own Chinese Orchestra.

Most performers had to make time out of their busy schedules and sacrifice their free time to practice their performance pieces for our enjoyment. Thus, we must really appreciate the efforts put in by not only the students, but also the teachers- in -charge who made this concert possible.

One of the key highlights of the concert was the fascinating costume changers who wowed the crowd by changing in incredible speeds! According to Miss Koh, who was the teacher in charge of the concert, the purpose of this performance was to emphasise this year’s school theme, Creativity.

Many days and weeks of preparation are put in to prepare such a splendid performance for us to enjoy every Chinese New Year! Both the performers and the teachers’ have worked hard to ensure that the concert was a success! Not forgetting the AVA boys, who always dutifully work behind the scenes to ensure that the quality of the concert is always up to standard!
