Haven’t heard from Team Passionfruit lately? But, I am sure you know who they are don’t you? Perhaps, you have at least heard about them before. Yes, they are the group of students who represented Evergreen Secondary School and emerged as the top 10 finalist and ultimately, not only won fourth place in the competition but also the Social Media Award in the annual animation contest: NEmation .It was definitely a spectacular year for these girls- Maybelle Ong, Mabel Wong, Pamela Lee and Yolanda Low. Have any of you ever wondered about the history behind the name of these girls’ group?
Well, EVG Vibes is privileged enough to interview Maybelle Ong whom will be sharing with us more insights on her team. Team Passionfruit was in fact a name with no meaning at all. Not even a pun! “Over the course of the competition, these girls were eventually known as "passionate fruits" who were probably the most bubbly people there in the competition” she recalled. This group of girls survived every round. There were 4 rounds in total- Top 100, Top 40, Top 20 and Top 10. When asked about the team’s experience, Maybelle mentioned that it was totally an unexpected win as they completely had no knowledge or exposure towards animation! In fact, they weren’t even interested in it. It all started off with the nomination of a teacher , and they really had no idea how they survived each round to Top 10 and even today, they are still astonished at their achievement . Theres one thing for sure , these girls had really enjoyed themselves and got closer over the course of the competition .
Of course, many of us have followed their Instagram account: @Team Passionfruit . In fact, they have over 300 followers. When asked about whether they will continue to keep the account active, Maybelle said that the competition may have ended but it will become a platform for the 4 of them to continue to use it and to look back as they grow older. “If you could change something during the course of the competition what will u change?” Maybelle joked that she would want to change the date of the competition as It was tough sacrificing their revision time when their end of year examinations were just a few weeks away…Ultimately, these girls’ sacrifices definitely did not go to waste! Before we ended this interview, she added that, her group of girls were very appreciative to the people who supported them all the way or even half way through the competition. Winning the Social media award itself, was really an award that they can't ask for. On behalf of her team, she would like to thank all the heartwarming encouragement they have received. She would also like to wish the teams who are taking part in the competition this year for the 12th season of NEmation the very best!
Don't worry about whether you get into TOP 10 or win any prizes, just have fun! The process is everything!
